Our cyclos! We were together for the picture but the driver couldn’t get going
so we needed to drop weight! They separated us to make it a little easier on the
small Vietnamese driver!
Monument showing the location where John McCain was shot down. He landed in the lake in the background and was saved from drowning by a Vietnamese man. On the right you see US Air Force , but he was a Navy pilot. Vietnamese believe if you fall out of the air, you are “Air Force”.
This is a temple, and the crane standing on the tortoise is symbolic of cooperation and friendship. The story goes that during a flood the crane needed to land but could not find land so the tortoise let the crane land on its back to rest. When there was a drought, the crane flew the tortoise to water. A temple is where they pray for people and Pagoda is where they pray to Buddha.
Even bottles Chivas are stacked up as an offering!
Vietnamese burn money as an offering and pray for good luck for family, and friends.
The US $100 is fake money, the VN dong is real, just not worth much.
Interesting war monument. It shows soldiers who have died. The year they were born,
the year they joined the military, their name, the year they died and where in Vietnam
they died. They refer to it as the American war.
