We bought these Vietnam jerseys from Dragon. He uses the profit to have a party
for all of the drivers and support group.
Traffic jam over the bridge.
Backroads...AKA Snack roads. We stop for mango smoothies, ginger tea, bread loaves & coconut cream coffee with ice cream! DELICIOUS!
No bridge here, so we had to use these boats to cross the water. One for the bikes and one for us.
Looks like the U.S army left some of their belongings.
Huge yellow mums were a typical decoration for the new year. Everything in RED & YELLOW.
Red for good luck and yellow for gold!
Typical street we rode our bikes through.
These were the best clams ever! Every single clam was delectable. The broth
had a good kick to it too!
Scallops with topings.
I think this was some of the best food we had on our entire trip...then again, the
next day, I would often say..."This is the best food so far!"
The Bahn Mi sandwich was one that Anthony Bourdain claimed to be the best in Vietnam!
Front of this restaurant....Lots of locals use it!
Sort of a hole in the wall!
Along the walls of this restaurant were many tanks with seafood ready to be cooked. Water to table!
Next to the restaurant was a massage spa. All of us who biked decided to do it. (on Backroads suggestion The girls work for high end places, like the Four Season where we were staying at a the fraction of the cost. A one hour massage was less than $25 for an hour and we were done biking for the day.
It turned into a hilarious faux pas! We were supposed to be with our spouse....and/or in a room with just
females or males. Curtains separated the guests. First off, we ended up in a room with another couple. The next problem was that when you wear biking pants, you don't wear underwear (there is a foam padding in the bike shorts. We explained this, so the massage girls held up purple towels so we could strip down and they gave us large boxer shorts. The curtains separating us were quite see through. Another guy & gal were in a different room, his wife has back problems so she wasn't biking, and the other gal was single. They ended up in the same predicament we did. Needless to say, we all came out laughing our heads off
and chalked it up as quite the memory. We all had great massages and a great LAUGH! Dragon was very concerned when we exited. He kept saying, "Why is everyone laughing? What is so funny??" Oh, and one more thing, when we entered the room and Mike took off his shirt, 3 girls rushed to his belly, rubbed it and GIGGLED!
This is Tracy & Kevin. He ordered 2 pairs of shoes the day before. Mike ordered custom made navy blue boots (we call them his Tom Petty boots) and a shirt. They fit like a glove! I ended up buying a green leather purse just off the shelf. Nothing custom made for me.
We got a shuttle back into the town of Hoi An so that we could experience
lantern street. Having a drink while we wait for the sun to go down.
Such an interesting trip! Beautiful photos and I love the history. Safe travels home!
